A fan is unlikely to run on the motorway any way, as there'll be enough air flow over/through radiator due to the car moving. If a car is overheating...

Check the radiator fan first in that case to make sure it actually works

Flush the cooling system before you start replacing things. Any sort of extra vibration / noise in the car? if so most likely water pump. John

Thermostats TEND to fail open, so the car will over cool cool rather than over heat.

Remove front panel and door skin. Then remove some black plastic protection just in front of door to expose wiring. This will be all clear once...
