Hey everyone,

I'm happy to announce the details for Smartz annual camping weekend, formally known as Smartzstock.

There is a change of location after 6 years in the lake district. Not a million miles away down in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales!

The campsite is now at:

LA2 8AZ

Tel: 015242 51021

Prices are:

Tent 4.00 per night
Adult 5.00 per person per night
First Vehicle per pitch - Free of Charge - 1.50 for every additional vehicle per night.

Everyone can book directly with the campsite, as detailed below. When booking, please quote SMARTZ

Everyone will need to pay a deposit of the first night on booking.
Booking can either by done by calling 01524 251021, or securely from our website www.dalesbridge.co.uk.

Some of the events we will be covering:

Friday evening - Games night
Saturday Daytime - Mel & OMA's Treasure Hunt
Saturday Evening - SuperStevie's Quiz

Mel will also be doing Mel's BIG Breakfast in the mornings, details of which will be sorted shortly.

OMA has added the following information:

Ok
Mel n I are the fund raising coordinators for the Local Cats Protection branch.
So the charity this year will the Farnham & Wey Valley Cats Protection.

We have a few things to sort for the trip this week.
But we have a new 'commune' which is a massive event shelter with sides for the evenings / breakfast / quiz and drinking.

SuperStevie

Excellent! Treasure hunt is one of the activities again! That was fun last year

And I believe Mel is going to do the BIG breakfast again.

Oh, and it wouldn't be and SS (smartzstock for those who don't know) with out a big quiz night! Instead of bingo this year, we will be having a different game, one with teams competing against each other. I'll say no more, but trust me, it will be fun :)

Assuming I can get the time off work - we'll be there.

OMA

Yep will be good

Mel doing the breakfast and we will work on the treasure hunt
We have a bigger tent this year and I believe stevie is renting the spare 'room'
It should hopefully be big enough for a little gathering, but we will need to check and put it up when I'm not double shifting on ight shifts

d

SuperStevie
26-03-2012, 12:12 PM
It is only a possibility that I need a room. Vaughan may come with me, so we will get a tent if he does.

I'm excited now!

SuperStevie

I've edited the first post with the following details about cars

First Vehicle per pitch - Free of Charge - 1.50 for every additional vehicle per night.

Oh and added what we have planned

Any chance that a couple of people from Norway, with a mother from Leeds, and bi-lingual Border Collie, could maybe visit on Saturday....in a, wait for it....VW Transporter?
Not sure we could camp over with an octagenarian (my mum....not the dog), but would be good to meet you guys.
We don't get to Leeds 'til Friday, and the vans booked in at my "local" indy on Monday....so time is tight!
Anyone know any (cheap) B&B close by for Saturday night?.....

This is the 1st time there's been a meet close enough, and at the right time!

S8RAH

I got giddy about the prospect of lactation ( ;) ) but it's one of the big MINI meets on 24th June in Worksop so we're camping out there :(
If I can make it over before we head off down there then I'll pop and say hello.

S8RAH
26-03-2012, 07:15 PM
btw Craven Arms in Giggleswick used to have a great reputation for B&B but that is going back a fair few years.

Or_GazM
26-03-2012, 08:27 PM
Thanks S8RAH......it's maybe 15 years since I was in that area....
Anyone else have any ideas?.......Would be great if we could book somewhere online (having a mobile 'phone that only just manages txt) before we leave Norway!
Would hate to be driving around at 11pm trying to find somewhere for my mum to sleep.....we've done it, but we're not quite that old yet......

Or_GazM
26-03-2012, 10:59 PM
Bump.....need to book a B&B if we're gonna get there.....pretty please!!!

If, just IF, nobody replies...OK, guess we're not welcome then :(

Hey Gaz, have you look at the campsite's website? It isn't just camping they do (http://www.dalesbridge.co.uk/accommodation/bedandbreakfast.htm)....

Sarah, that would be great if you can make it on down, would be nice to finally meet you. Why is it that anything I organise, there is a MINI event on as well?? lol

I was thinking of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Day visitors free?
Can't stay overnight with a 79 year old passenger, and won't even be in a Smart anyway :(

Just hoping to meet some people and maybe get chance on the Treasure Hunt :) and have some fun with the quiz? (But I have to stay sober as Hille is not keen on driving on the "wrong side of the road"...OK on motorways, but moans like hell when I have to shout at her at any roundabout! )

Won't be there for breakfast :( 'cos we're not early risers...unless it's one of those all-day ones  , but hoping to be there before noon.....it's about 2 hours from my mums.

I am new to smarz.co.uk but have been on the offical destinationsmart.co.uk for a while. After attending the last couple of smart fests with my partner we are looking at other smart events to attend and this sounds very interesting.

How popular is it?

My partner has her own funk band which is based around Ilkley/Otley so I was wondering whether, if the event was big enough, it would be worth seeing whether the rest of the band would fancy coming a doing a gig!!!

Hi Al, welcome to Smartz! Event is no where to the scale of brooklands. Not sure on exact numbers yet, possibly around 20 or so people I hope. Think of it as one of those small intimate gigs rather than a stadium tour. Still lots of fun!

Im not sure we can have a band in a field I'm afraid, and he club house arranges its own music. thank you for the offer though

Just to clarify for all 'maybe's here - this is a FANTASTIC event normally. I've been to 3 (I think) and had a fantastic time at all of them. :)

Just turn up with a tent, park near the other Smarts and say hello. Everyone's friendly and welcoming.

Might try and make it up myself if I'm in the country (not convinced I am).

My partner and I are looking at coming along. I take it I book directly with the campsite. It may be a bit of overkill but we will probably be bringing both of our Smart cars - Little Sid and Big Sid II. She has a 2001 LHD Passion and I have a 2012 CDI for the long commute. It would be unfair of us to only bring one of them as we would have to leave one at home and that isn't fair!

We were camping in an area just within the red weather warning area, so to last as long as we did lol.

Roads were shockingly bad.
Mel has done amazing considering its her first long drive

I think if we'd have left it any later to get the tents down would have been asking for trouble.

I knew Yorkshire was a bad idea (as a Lancashire lad, its in my blood to distrust anything Yorkshire).

But I did learn something I never knew....

Yorkshire has a monsoon season and we were in the thick of it!! :excl:

(was this the real reason Stevie could (would?) not attend???)

I hope we didn't piss off the Park Foot people to much...

To be fair, it starts in November and ends in September ;)

Crikey, sorry to hear the Coleman's damaged. Am kicking myself because I was going to respond and say make sure it's well pegged down as they have a tendancy to bend. We nearly lost ours last weekend, and my jogging bottoms were muddy up to the arse!

It was pegged down spot on. Nice and secure. I think it was just the water that didn't help. Here is the where the shelter was...

Apparently the campsite is very well drained according to the guy on reception...

No campsite is well drained in this weather. Our local Scout Campsite spent thousands on drainage and was purportedly one of the best in the area to use in inclement weather, I'll have to dig out the photo of our feet submerged in the mud :s

We are finally home
To keep everyone updated,
The godfather, the 59reg CDi, sprung a fuel leak just about Warwick on the way. Got recovered to head to Smart Coventry who point blank refused to take us as a two and a half week wait for work. Headed to Merc in Stratford upon Avon, who wouldn't even see a smart and treated us like Leppers. So headed to Birmingham after 4 hours. They took the car, and after a bit of discussion we got a lovely 12 Reg CDi Passion with only 600 miles on the clock.
We then drove the rest of the way to the site, arrived at 2350, and I put the tent up. We fell asleep and then got up at 0900. Put the shelter up and then had some breakfast. About 1230 ish it started to rain, and didn't stop. Mel n I had to go to Blackburn to get some spare insulin. This involved fording through a hell of a lot of water.
on the way home, the side skirt of the 12 reg (call her snowbelle) ended up behind in the 'river' on the road. I had t wade and get it.
We then got a call from YaskinForit and mvbvy, to advise that our tent might need some 're pitching' and 'had indoor plumbing'. By the time we got back it was clear that the site was flooding and that we needed to run like rats on the titanic.
We ended up soaked and in the travel lodge, then headed to my grandparents for a few days.
Just arrived home to Basingstoke, snowbelle now has 1300 miles on her, and the godfather is still broken.
Three bolts holding the manifold are sneered off and need to be drilled out, if they can be. Otherwise it's a new manifold.
Got knows how that happened.
Not amused, but least the godfather doesn't stink of damp and wet etc

Oh, forgot to say, LJ 51 reg smart, driven by Mel perfectly, performed brilliantly. And even managed a 63mg trip on the way there!
