I've just heard the news about Benny.

Someone had put about flipping his car and I was " oh my god is he alright "

I am sure that everyone on the site wishes him a speedy recovery and that his arm is able to be fixed. Take care mate and rest up!

on the other hand i am glad stephen aka one half susiesmart is ok as he was the passenger in the car at the time, i am sure he is feeling the aches today

he never once complained or looked for sympathy (not that benny did, he just sat there as if to say 'christ its a wee cut', i woulda been screaming like a wee girl)

the two of them are so lucky especially the way the car was and the ahem blood, i am sure we will here from him soon

I've just heard from Brian they are going to see him before they head home and hopefully Benny will get out to go home today :) just need to keep our fingers crossed for him :) i'm glad both of them walked away from the accident, i've just spoke to Steven as well and he's fine this morning too no aches and pains to report :)

I spoke to Dave yesterday before I left and he said he'd be there to take him home if they let him out but not 100% sure what's happening

As for the car I haven't a clue to be honest i haven't asked once about it altho Stevie did mention when I spoke to him this morning that it can be fixed, just need to wait and see, i'm just glad that he's fine cause he can't be replaced :) cars can :)

He was talking about travelling to the nearest airport and flying home, it would be somewhat quicker.

Questiong is would he be allowed to fly with his arm as it is?

Either way, i hope he gets home soon, has a speedy recovery and gets back out the in his old roadie (once repaired) or a new one should he decide thats the better option...

SusieSmart

Glad to hear you got back OK Benny. We did have a quick look at your car at the garage, we think a few panels, new tridion & a steering rack but you can't tell everything when it's on the ground! The roof bars almost went back in but the front section was a bit low. Our guestimate would be about £4000 to get it back on the road from what we could see!

Hope you get patched up as easily, once again it's proved just how fab our little cars can be when they are tested!

Best Wishes
Kate & Paul

ps we have the garage details if you need them just drop us a mail or call us!

Could he get a cheap lefty for around £5k and keep the engine/gearbox/remaining panels as spares? Not sure if the steering rack would work though, being on the other side

A LHD would work if you could find one but it would be a lot better to start from scratch with a tridion, that way everything would be moved over properly and sealed in so it should be 100% water tight!

Fab news about your injuries, sounds like you have managed to get away without too much serious damage.

Big hugs & good luck

this might be a stupid question ...... but what exactly caused the car to end up upside down ..... did it roll down the inclined bank in the pictures ?? ....if it did it held up remarkably well .....anyway its good to know your parents are going to help get the car fixed and that your in good spirits ...... well done that man .

Basically, i was going round the corner and I saw a jag and paniced thinking there wasn't enough room to get through so I turned the wheel to the left not realising I was so close to the incline and the car flipped.

Just sought a second opinion from my personal medical expert;
(12 years Senior Sister in A & E plus additional Wound Management & Infection Control Qualifications etc etc)

She reckons that your wound is bound to sting a bit!

You'll be stuck with 4 - 6 weeks of dressings on the wound till it's healed and that you'll have an interesting scar!;)

Tell the girls it's a shark bite!:p

Hopefully the car will be fixed by the time your arm has healed.

lol thats what you think! they all have a good look when youre asleep lol! yeah the donor site is always the most painfull, its like a big graze. keep popping the pills - thatl help. and remember no smoking, drinking, cafeine or chocolate for the next 5 days! anything that causes your little cappiliaries to shrink down should be given a miss! although saying that the best skingraft take i ever saw was on an alcoholic who drank constantly throughout his stay in hospital lol - we kept finding bottles of vodka under his pillow every morning! no idea where he got them from lol.

Well, I was back at the hospital today for a check-up type thing. The doctor said it was healing well, and I should be back to sorts in about 2 weeks. I also got the bandage/splint thingie off my arm so I can use my right hand again! :D

Anyway, some pics for people who want to see! (Not for screamish people)

The roof was off, so when it flipped, I had my arms up to protect myself, and then it got cought under the top of the tridion as the car slid. the doctor said I burnt the nerve endings which explains the lack of feeling along the underside of my arm.

Last update type thing. Was at the hospital today and the Doctor said my arm had healed 100% but it'll take some time for the skin to loosen up, and about a year for it to look normalish.

Right, another lil update type thing. I feel 100% again, can move my arm perfectly with no pain, can walk (not far but thats just lazyness) I can do everything I could do before the accident basically.

Again, I just want to thank everyone, the people at SS, the people who came to visit me in the hospital, the people who txt'd me, Dave for getting me home, Wellsmart for sorting the car out for me.

So yea, it's been an eventful first year of smart ownership, three smarts, two crashes and one skin graft. Wonder what'll happen in my second year.

So yea, basically, thanks. ^_^

You are NOT going to bash this one when we have finished, I won't let you! & if you do then you won't be allowed any more Smarts! Just like we won't sell to stupid people we won't let careless people have one either! lol

It will look great when we have worked our magic!
