I have to say, I don't love my 451 (84) as much as any of my 450s. If I had my time again, I would buy a lightly tuned, low mileage 700cc. Compared with 450s, the disappointments are:

    Noisy, less sophisticated engine
EGR valve clatters like a dustbin lid
    5 speed gearbox (not 6)
Selecting reverse is slow - meaning I often rev it in neutral, thinking its in gear
Cabrio roof is very, very noisy
Interior is rather bland compared to 450s

Finally, its been remapped and suffers from significant hesitancy between 3-4000rpm. To be fair, that's not the fault of the car but rather, the new map. It probably also explains the poor fuel consumption

On the plus side, it is very quick and the engine should last better

Not actually annoyed with it - just slightly underwhelmed.

    Hesitancy ?

You state that you have a problem with your car after it being remapped

    Who did the map ?

Why haven't they fixed the problem , assuming you have told them

I've seen alarming reports stating that valve guides wear out fast.

Replacement valve guides are non existing meaning the poor owners have to fork out on expensive cylinder head replacements.

    "Who did the map"

I don't know for certain - The bloke I bought it from mentioned a name but he was rather vague and didn't give me any documents - I certainly don't want to bad-mouth them because, as you say, they've had no option to address the problem.

I'd like to get the standard map re-installed and see how a stock 84bhp drives. Any recommendations for someone to do it in the Herts/Cambs/Nth London area?

[Incidentally, it generated a mixture fault code once so its not my imagination.]

....Valve guides? Oh lets hope not...Bet they go at 60,000 miles

    thanks in anticipation

I was going to say your "hesitation" could have been down to some other hardware failing/underperforming/in need of a service etc, rather than the map itself, but now from what you've said (and not knowing your remapper either and not wanting to badmouth them for the same reasons, this next bit is all I will say) I'm going to say Hmmmm..
I'd like to get the standard map re-installed
Sounds like a plan to eliminate it, maybe the new remapper will be able to tell what's in/on there currently too
You're so money supermarket and you don't even know it!
