    Fitting arm to 2004 Roadster

I bought my 2004 Roadster last year and it obviously used to have something fitted on the handbrake that's been removed or has broken (see first picture https://www.box.com/s/2qu6gkaxfd8id72kirsj). Having done some digging I understand the handbrake can have an armrest fitted to it; having contacted Smart - who told me they no longer make the part - I found a new armrest for the 2004 model through a vendor on eBay (see second picture https://www.box.com/s/uxqfbuyabbwbsgohy1ne). The seller assures me it ought to fit the 2004 model, but it's not entirely obvious to me that it does, or how to fit it, and I've never seen a Roadster with the armrest in place.
Does anyone have such an armrest fitted to their Roadster? Can you send a picture of the armrest in place?
It's looks necessary to take off the existing covering of the metal handbrake if I'm to fit the armrest I have - and it appears to need a special kind of screw driver to do this - any suggestions on where I can get one of these?

I would go back to the dealer. Think you need items 8 or 17 in below link:

Tbh it looks a bit naf any way (the split along the top edge of the handbrake of the 2 parts just looks cheap)

Save your money and get a BRABUS handbrake and nice gaitor

A piece of imitation leather, foam and plywood ought to do the job.

Why would you want an arm rest on your hand brake? Aren't handbrakes meant for getting women into bed, not for leaning on? I have no idea personally as I am too old and married to know these things. I am just referring to the recent episode of Top Gear

The one that goes on top of the handbrake was discontinued because it was rubbish. It was plastic and snapped really easily - had no strength in it at all.

So smart replaced it with one that bolts to the centre tunnel - unforutnately though, it requires a bit of surgery to retro-fit if you have a pre-2005 build car (I have done it so know it well).

There is a guide over on tr.n explaining how to do it.

It is 100% better though and does mean you can use it with the Brabus handbrake.
