    Inspired by Mark84!

After a long run up and down the A1 our Smart was absolutely filthy, so taking advice and inspiration from Marks post i got to work on a winter clean, polish and wax.

I know it's nowhere near Marks standards, and i know the wheels need a refurb (summer job!) but considering it looked like it had been on a rally course, i don't think i've done too bad!

And wow, adding pictures gave me a headache!

Thanks! i should have taken before pics really but wanted to crack on and get it clean, and considering how bad it was - you couldn't even see through the back window! i knew it was going to be a long slog!

Products i used are mainly autoglym, but i used Simoniz original wax to protect it, it's what i got last year for the van and it might not be the flashiest product but i knew from your expertise once it was cleaned and polished it wanted a good wax seal and i didn't want to drive to Halfords for something else!

I will be getting some nice new detailing stuff as the weather improves, I've been looking at Meguires as it seems to get good reviews, but any recommendations are welcome.

I always take the number plates off, it comes from helping mates detail concours Escort Cosworths and XR2is many moons ago!

Send me a PM with what you're after when you're ready and ill give some recommendations! Megs is good, but their consumer offerings have gone a bit gimmicky of late

Looks very good - really need to do mine but as my avoiding rush hour traffic route currently takes me through a car park and a building site, it gets muddy daily.

When the weather picks up I have some carspünk wax to apply - nearly out of swissvax

It's a pain this time of year, all that effort and it only lasts a day if you're lucky! even my grumpy neighbour came out and gave it the old; "Hummfff, no point washing it, it'll only get dirty again"

But my rationale was that giving it a couple of coats of wax will make it easier to clean next time, make the muck stick less and will protect the bodywork.

-thats how i justified the aching arms and freezing hands to myself!

Defo - after I've waxed (ooer) it normally only takes a 5min wash with Johnson's baby lotion to get the car looking nice again - even after a week of grime.
