    Nope.
You cannot compel a person to vote into power that they do not condone. Unless a 'none of the above' option or spoiled ballot paper is permitted.

    +1

If it is compulsory to vote then why have a minimum age for voting? You surely cannot believe that all people are capable of knowing and understanding the pros and cons because that is just not true. Voting should be limited to the people that want to have an input.

I rarely vote except when I feel that the subject is important to me / family / local community and that there is something to choose between the options offered.

What would happen if "The Party" was done away with?

It seems to me to be a completely useless entity. If the Conservative party and the Labour party and every other party was made illegal and you voted for your preferred candidate based on his bullsh*t during the campaign you would then have a group of people that could vote in their own leader immediately after the public election irrespective.

What purpose does "the party" serve other than to grey the waters because of a perceived need for majority?

if no one headed up those people there would never be any decisions made haha

just shouty shouty grown ups acting like children

    i find this map intriguing..

huge territorial coverage by cons yet there were only 800,000 votes between the parties but 54 seats

i'm not sure what that says about the UK population

Not if it takes a 6,000 word article in the Observer to explain, no way.
Perhaps Facebook shunning them will garner more public attention.

FB down 4% pre-market, so it has definitely had an impact

Channel 4 News tonight (7pm) will be going deep into CA's activities.
I wonder how it feels to be one of the 50m FB users who had their data lifted and who now have to question that every pop-up ad and news story is a direct attempt at brainwashing them and influencing how they will vote (not to mention the inculcation of fear in many - a form of abuse, which impacts on how daily life is lived). Maybe a news story will pop up telling them that it's all 'fake news' and CA don't actually exist. What times we live in when truth is so wantonly disregarded. Democracy depends on an informed electorate. No surprise then in finding out who benefits from all of this.

Obviously I've not installed the app, but it seems highly unlikely that they didn't obtain consent

T&C – “By installing this App you give consent to us accessing everything forever for any reason” – was what it probably said, nobody would have read it

But that is not the same as informed consent, nor is it the same as 'invested consent' - most users probably couldn't give a damn

If fact if the result was that they saw more political content that reinforced their world view, rather than anything that challenged it, I expect they would be very supportive

However it's quite possible I'm wrong as I think FB have rescinded Cambridge Analytica’s access in some way, and I've been told that

Facebook’s “platform policy” allowed only collection of friends’ data to improve user experience in the app and barred it being sold on or used for advertising

Whatever the case, it is good to see the Cambridge Analytica issue gaining traction, a year on, despite my predictions to the contrary
