Oil Pressure Warning Light

A week ago (or around that time) I discovered that oil was leaking underneath my Roadster every time I drive it. I checked the engine bay and noticed oil residue around the top of the dipstick and a great deal of oil residue underneath the engine.

I also noticed that the temperature guage reading was lower than normal.

The car has been driving fine however I have started to notice the oil pressure warning light blink on and off occasionally. On the LCD computer screen a warning also appears telling me to switch the engine off.

I have put extra oil into the engine and checked the dipstick and all appears fine after the top up. However since topping up the oil pressure warning light and computer screen notification has started to appear again. I am aware that the warning is about low oil pressure not low oil level. I added the extra oil in light of the oil leak.

I am concerned about this, I hope someone can shed any light on why the warning may be appearing. I know I now need to get the car looked at asap.

Not that I've noticed. Seems to come on when the car is at a standstill mostly or slowing down?

How do you do that?

This is one of the rare instances where I'd suspect the light.
If it is well topped up then unlikely to be caused by surge. If it was failing oil pressure chances are the light would be flickering when the engine is idling. Have a look for the pressure sensor and check if the wire to it isn't bare and shorting.

So it's 50/50 right now, faulty sensor or actual low oil pressure

I dunno where the pressure sensor is!

I do have issues with water leaking into the car (as it's a soft top), I wonder if there is wiring issue then?

The light doesn't come on when I start the car, it seems to come on later on after driving. Sometimes it does feel a bit sluggish to pull away at a junction.

Well, there is the oil leak but the oil is topped up. The warning light has only started to come on (flickering) since the oil leak started.

What are the implications of low oil pressure and what could cause this?
