They diagnosed a failed fuel pump on my Roadster.
Charged me 4 hours labour ... Mercedes' time is an hour and a half, when challenged was told that there was no way it could be done in the time quoted by MB. Got the car back & I could smell fuel with a full tank, particularly when the roof was back, took it back. They looked at the car, told me it was cos I was 'over fuelling it' and the wet around the locking collar wasn't fuel Very dismissive, I was wrong .... they were right.
I replaced the O ring from between the fuel pump & tank myself ... common sense suggests it would have been done when the pump was changed ... no more smell of fuel.

Filled with confidence from rumours on the internet about them I went there once (3 or 4 years ago) .... and I won't go back again.

They did a diagnostics for my 451, and were very very very very vague on what they would charge me for the problem. (One of those chin scratching quotes) even though the diagnostics pointed to a particular sensor (boost pressure sense I think?)

It left me with the feeling that in future I would drive past them to a MB dealer rather than have them do work.

Always ask merc for a quote for work. They have set hours for certain tasks. "Diagnostics" is always open ended - normally merc will charge you an hour and see what they find then call you

I am talking about the place in manchester, not the place in leeds, and I guess ED is also talking about them.

well most companies charge a 1 hour fee for initial diagnostics and if you think after plugging a computer in a garage can be 100% sure it will solve the issue then thats mad.

So all you did was throw away some money because someone couldn't guarantee fixing 1 thing would 100% solve a problem.

I've used smart-sport for diagnostics and it just wasn't possible to determine how long or where the fault may lie. Had a few sensor faults that flagged up but nothing that would lead to the issue.

I've used merc too.... they are ok as long as they follow the instructions. and yes then can give you an exact cost for a job (as each job has a time code - even if it doesn't take them that long) but that doesn't mean that because they've diagnosed a sensor and given a firm cost to replace that the car will be fixed..... both different modus operandi

I used some 10W-40 rather than 5W-30 once, can't remember whether it was for a topup or change, but either way it caused oil pressure warning to flicker when hot at idle.

Immediately did a full oil/filter change and all was well again (in my 599cc 450).
