MB went over to water based paints in the late 90s (EU rules) but by 2002 had also gone to galvanised panels. I don't know if the Smart falls into that category but Mercedes stood on with the rusty Mercs and paid to sort them out subject to some conditions, under 8 years old, less than 175 k miles. They later introduced a minimum ownership time because some horse traders were buying them cheap at auction and claiming.

The roadster engine is a LOT stronger than the fortwo/450 engines. So if buying a 2nd hand engine, buying a Roadster one makes a lot of sense as it's more likely to be in decent shape when you buy it, and it's significantly less likely to ever need a rebuild.
Plus if you are that way inclined, it can produce more power.

The roadster or 101hp engine isn't cheap!
Maybe a 82Hp engine is easier and cheaper to find.

I have a friend who took one out to stick some motor cycle engine in there. Do you want me to see if he still has it and how much it is?

    It is in Burnley.

The engine which in the roadster develops 82hp was only fitted in the Brabus 450. And it was detuned to 74hp. As well you know.

You know full well what people mean when they refer to buying a "roadster" engine so stop being pedantic and trying to pick an argument.

Dont say roadster engine , if you mean a 82hp engine!
There are 3 types of engine in a roadster.
