I know all I want to know about 453, made by Renault says it all IMHO.

I use the Chinese method on my 451

Two pieces of bamboo to keep the carpet up out the way, fitted diagonally one each side of the boot and propped from carpet top to front of boot opening. Works fine.

(PS....just got to watch bottom end of bamboo does not interfere with loose wiring near front of boot. Smart do not seem to loom cables very much)

While we are in this area what is the hook for on the back (of the car) right of the boot carpet on the 451?

THIS - fold it forward, then simply pull the luggage cover over the top of it and refit the pole. Holds it perfectly.

I can assure you it is very secure, the carpet can't move as the pole is engaged in the fixings on the sides & is a couple of inches below the edge of the carpet.
    Give it a try & you'll see.

Agreed, it's the most obvious way to hold the carpet up, and one of the reasons I bought a luggage cover for my ForTwo. I used a bit of bamboo before I got the cover.

Does anyone know if the 450 cover will fit the 451?

Got a feeling thinking back on my old 45o, that the 450 cover is narrower than the 451, and the rod fixing would have to be modified to fit the 451.

Better just to buy a secondhand 451 cover off Ebay, cheapest on there at the moment is 50.

Too rich for me (I live very close to Yorkshire and not too far from Scotland).

I have one off an E300 Merc that I think I will have a go at cutting down.
