Yup, big hike. Cheapest I can get is over 300 so around 100% increase this year.

    That sucks.

The government ought to put a price cap on insurance premiums. 300 for one wee Smart is far too much. Me paying 337 for two cars must then be a real bargain.

All things are relative, my 454 and 450 cost me a combined 670 (400 for the 454 and 270 for the 450 - both modified to some degree) for the year in insurance.

Try MSM Insurance. I paid 279.50 & that included 55 breakdown cover.

My Mk5 City-Coupe is LHD & has quite a few mods that have been declared.

Give them a call they're nice people.

I am with MSM Insurance, have been for the past few years, very understanding people when it comes to explaining the mods and such. More so than Admiral, who when they asked why I was not renewing with them, I told them that they couldn't insure me because of the number of modifications to my 450 mk5 RHD (they have a odd limit of 5 mods). Aviva (Norwich Union) quoted me nearly twice as much for my unmodified CDI as I pay for my 454.

MSM Insurance is only a broker. More interesting to learn what insurer you are with.

The actual insurance company I'm with is KGM.

I just got my renewal through the post from Direct Line.

    226

Their web site told me 370 but the paper says 226 so I renewed with them.

There is also an bit of an explanation. I changed the car mid term from my 2003 petrol to the 2009 diesel. Direct Line do not charge mid term for changes provided it is not a ridiculous change and they have pointed out in the renewal note that had I insured the 2009 last year it should have cost me 209 rather than the 180 or so that I did pay for the 2003. I suppose it is their way of justifying what appears to be a large increase in premium.
