    The cheap OBD readers do not understand those sensors, you need Xentry to measure the exhaust temperature and cheap ones report all sorts of stupid fault codes related to them.

    The one on the exhaust i tested the ohms on it. And it read nothing compared to the new one.

    Thanks for all the advice people.

    I took it for a run today and as has been suggested, the problem appears to have gone back under cover. Obviously it may still be there ready to bite me someday but for now I will ignore it, remember to cycle the ignition if it happens again and go on holiday not worrying what I might come home to.

    Hopefully, the problem has gone for good, merely a glitch that day (maybe expressing its opinion of what it endured during MOT. I'd not be quiet with a probe stuck up me either).
