Fyfe wifie was so impressed she paid me £60.

I am not short of strimmers. Acquired three from the tip recently. Same place where the Ryobi came from a few years back. Usually nothing wrong with them apart from carbs needing a clean and adjustment.

I hate you. Our tip is policed better than the streets, if you take anything at all they come down on you like a ton of bricks and they will prosecute you for theft.

Which part of the carb are you cleaning and what adjustment - mixture, idle speed, both?
(I have a Mountfield strimmer and a hedge trimmer (which hasn't run long enough to discolour its exhaust box), neither of which are keen to run despite good compression).

Garden centres end up with them and end up scrapping them because the hourly rate they have to charge means it's cheaper for the customer to buy a new one. I get 3 or 4 such machines at a time and give the centre £20 so that I can come back for more. All 3 of the previous lot I managed to get running again. (Not for reselling though, I'm using them as test engines).
