    I was given a set of 17 mm across the flats wheel bolts but still using my original 15 mm bolts. Less weight hence faster acceleration.

    Yes, I can see where that would be necessary with a CDI.

    Tolsen, have you removed all the unnecessary plastics from your car to save weight for your faster acceleration? I doubt you would be able to show, even under test lab conditions, the improvement in acceleration from just changing the 15mm bolts for 17mm bolts.
    It certainly wouldn't make any difference to the acceleration times for your CDI when it has 50KG of cement in the back and a trailer with a boat on it! Lol.

    Still, each to their own!

    There is a considerable difference in wheel bolt mass. Lighter wheel bolts hence lower unsprung mass improves traction and handling.

    A 17 mm wheelbolt weighs 70 grams.
    An original Smart hollow head 15 mm wheelbolt weighs 50 grams.
    Total weight saving per wheel becomes thus: A massive 60 grams since, as you all will know, there are three wheel bolts per wheel.

    Going from 15 to 17mm bolts means youíre changing the moment of inertia (solely of the bolts per car)
    from 0.001896 kg.m^2 to 0.002652 kg.m^2

    Itís going to make a huge difference

    Hence with my now rather rusty and much lighter wheelbolts Iíll be miles ahead of Heinkel in an acceleration test.
