After all the grief you've gone to with the head bolts (never even occurred to me that they could be an issue unlike the AJP8 I've been working on recently) it would be very sad indeed to ignore the rings which are the underlying cause of the burnt exhaust valve issue.

I promise doing the bottom end will be a walk in the park compared with your head bolt issue, unless you have a 698 when it will be slightly more of a challenge, but you have the photos showing what others have done to gain access.

Yes I agree. I've had a wonder round t'internet tonight and it would seem to be the sensible thing to do. My car is a 698cc so will have to do the mod to be able to get 2 and 3 out.

The mod is probably the way to go, but there's a guy here who's done it without, must be hyper-dexterous though.

Well it's been a while but I've finished the rebuild, after many problems, and the car is now back on the road. Followed all the instructions and couldn't have done it without them. Set the timing as per Evilution website suggestion and it seems to be spot on. Was going to buy a Xgauge but I'm too late they've all gone. So I've invested in the Android app Torque Pro and a Bluetooth dongle.

I should have included this in the advice I've been sending to those who ask. I did post this some time ago, but in a separate thread, and it really should be included here as well, apologies for the oversight.
